How to Get Your Computer Running Faster in 3 Easy Steps

Everyone wants his or her computer to run faster, and why not? When you first get your computer, it runs nice and smooth. Then over time, it starts slowing down. Before you know it, your computer is bogging down and you find yourself starting it up and getting a cup of coffee. So what do you do?

Run the Free Windows Defrag

Every computer comes with the standard Windows defrag installed. This is because they know that the registry will become fragmented over time. You should run this at least once a month to keep your computer running smoothly.

Click Start

Click My Computer

Right Click "Local Disk C:"

Click Properties - This will pop up a window

Click the Tab that says "Tools"

Click Defragment Now - This opens a new window

Click Defragment - This starts the defragment process, which could take a few minutes to a few hours depending on how badly fragmented your computer, is.

Run a Registry Cleaner

There are several free and paid registry cleaners available on the internet. Both have their advantages. Personally, I use a paid version that I bought with a spyware cleaner since it was only $10 more. The value of a registry cleaner cannot be overstated.

Windows registry works so well and without it your computer would run very slowly. The only problem is each time you load a program these files are moved around. Think of it like a junk drawer. That drawer will just get more and more messed up. You have to keep it cleaned if you expect to find anything. Just to see how messy your registry is, I recommend running one of those free scanners.

Finally, Run a Spyware Cleaner

Again, you can get a free one or purchase one. The one I got and use is combined with my registry cleaner. I probably spent $30 for a year license and it works great. You can probably find them cheaper and I know you can find them for free. However, you do need to have something to protect your computer from spyware.

You cannot surf the Internet without getting spyware. I do not care how careful you are. It is impossible not to get spyware on your computer. The spyware slows your computer down. If you don't have anti-spyware currently, then go check out a free scan. You might be surprised how much spyware is actually on your computer already.

Initially, it takes some work to get the software set up but once set up it practically runs itself. Most programs can be set to run automatically and will run when you are not using your computer. Therefore, your computer will always run at maximum performance.
