Windows 7 Running Slow? - Find Out How to Optimise Your Computer to Run Fast Before You Upgrade It!

People have been looking forward to updating their computers to the newest windows 7 from Microsoft. Just exactly what do you need to know about the upgrade process before you go out and purchase your copy?

First off, you will have two separate options for updating your current operating system. For those people who already have Windows Vista it is not required that you go out and purchase the full install disk. Instead you can simply purchase the upgrade disk and use that to get Windows 7 Running on your machine.

Before you do any of that though you need to make sure your computer will even be able to handle what Windows 7. You can find that out by running the windows 7 upgrade advisor from. "microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/upgrade-advisor.aspx".

Next you have to make sure your computer has a DVD drive. This is because the disk for the installation is on DVD.

Last, make sure you have a active internet connection available.

Once you have checked all this you need to optimise your PC to run windows 7.

There are three steps to do this.

#1 Windows advisor will tell you about most programs that are not compatible with windows 7, but not all of them. Remove any old programs and programs you do not use and then check what is left to make sure they are compatible. The upgrade advisor will automatically check any Microsoft programs for you.

#2 Defragment your hard drive. This may seem strange when you are doing an upgrade, doing this not only puts all your files in order, but leaves a big block of free space on your drive, instead of leaving bits of free space all over the place. This will make the upgrade quicker and windows itself run quicker after installation.

#3 Run a free registry scan. This is vital in case you have anything malicious hiding in your registry that can transfer itself with the upgrade or any errors or corruption that can slow down your computer. If programs or files are carried over during the upgrade windows performance can suffer if there are errors present.

Running a free registry scan only takes a few minutes and with these other steps will ensure a faster windows 7 computer.
